Scaling Digital Agriculture Innovations through Start-ups (SAIS)
project description
The SAIS initiative aims to enhance the investor readiness of African start-ups in the food and agriculture sector, focusing on post-seed phase businesses preparing to scale. Through the Investment Readiness Programme (IRP), it provides tailored support in business model improvement, product development, customer relations, marketing strategies, and financial management, while facilitating access to investment opportunities. Each year, up to 16 start-ups participate in the IRP.
SAIS comprises three components:
- Start-up selection
- Company development and venture-building
- Investor matchmaking
Luvent Consulting implemented action area 2 for two cohorts, delivering needs assessments, IRP design and training, progress tracking, and additional business development support. Luvent also supported start-up selection and investor matchmaking.
The project enhanced the growth, innovation, and management skills of start-ups, demonstrated by a 50% revenue increase, expanded customer bases, entry into new markets, product improvements, and optimised business models. The IRP incorporated gender-sensitive measures to promote equity.
